What we stand for

G25 is committed to pursue a just, democratic, peaceful, tolerant, harmonious, moderate and progressive multi-racial, multi cultural, multi religious Malaysia through Islamic principles of Wassatiyah (moderation) and Maqasid Syariah (well-being of the people) that affirms justice, compassion, mercy, equity.

Malaysia is to be led by rule of law, good governance, respect for human rights and upholding the institution of the country.

We aim to ensure, raise awareness, promote that Syariah laws and civil laws should work in harmony and that the Syariah laws are used within its legal jurisdiction and limits as provided for by the federal and state division of powers.

There should be rational dialogues to inform people on how Islam is used for public law and policy that effects the multi ethnic and multi religious Malaysia and within the confines of the Federal Constitution, the supreme law of the nation.

We work in a consultative committee of experts to advise the government and facilitate amendments to the state Syariah laws, to align to the Federal Constitution and the spirit of Rukun Negara.

It is imperative to achieve a politically stable, economically progressive Malaysia and to be able to enjoy the harmony, tolerance, understanding and cooperation in this multi diverse country.

G25 Forum, venue

G25 Malaysia would like to announce the change in venue for our G25 Public Forum entitled “Reforms for a Progressive Malaysia” which will be held this Saturday on 27 January 2018.

We will now be holding our Public Forum at Hall 3, Level 7 of the Ideal Convention Center (IDCC) Shah Alam, Jalan Pahat L15/L, Section 15, 40200 Shah Alam, Selangor. Registration begins at 8.30am. We do apologize for any inconvenience this last-minute change in venue may have caused.

In 2015, G25 Malaysia held its first Public Forum on Islam in a Constitutional Democracy. At its conclusion, the Group reaffirmed its commitment and agreed to, amongst other things:

  1. Promote the Islamic principles of Maqasid Al-Shariah and Wasatiyyah;

  2. Raise public awareness on the administration of Islam in Malaysia; and

  3. Support reforms for good governance practices among public institutions.

Since then, the Group in collaboration with other like-minded stakeholders, have conducted relevant studies, events, and published several reform proposal papers.

The objective of this Second Forum is to inform the public on the work of G25 over the last two years and to showcase the Group’s reform papers, as well as to provide a platform to discuss the proposals made. The aim is to then publish the proposal papers into book-form with a final chapter synthesizing the dialogues held over this one-day event.

The key themes of this forum are:

1. Good governance in the public sector;

2. Clean government;

3. National unity; and

4. Moderate Islam based on Justice, Compassion and Mercy.

We have very special and dedicated keynote speakers. We are delighted to welcome once again YBM Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to our event & applaud his fervent support and passionate commitment to the cause for reform. And for the first time, the World Bank Country Manager, Mr Faris Hadad is equally enthusiastic to grace our forum as he focuses on sustainable growth.
