What we stand for

G25 is committed to pursue a just, democratic, peaceful, tolerant, harmonious, moderate and progressive multi-racial, multi cultural, multi religious Malaysia through Islamic principles of Wassatiyah (moderation) and Maqasid Syariah (well-being of the people) that affirms justice, compassion, mercy, equity.

Malaysia is to be led by rule of law, good governance, respect for human rights and upholding the institution of the country.

We aim to ensure, raise awareness, promote that Syariah laws and civil laws should work in harmony and that the Syariah laws are used within its legal jurisdiction and limits as provided for by the federal and state division of powers.

There should be rational dialogues to inform people on how Islam is used for public law and policy that effects the multi ethnic and multi religious Malaysia and within the confines of the Federal Constitution, the supreme law of the nation.

We work in a consultative committee of experts to advise the government and facilitate amendments to the state Syariah laws, to align to the Federal Constitution and the spirit of Rukun Negara.

It is imperative to achieve a politically stable, economically progressive Malaysia and to be able to enjoy the harmony, tolerance, understanding and cooperation in this multi diverse country.

Think City, MBPP launch book to promote cultural heritage in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Think City and the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) launched a book titled "Rejuvenating the City Together: The George Town Grants Programme" in their bid to promote the tangible and intangible heritage in the state.

Think City Sdn Bhd executive director Hamdan Abdul Majeed said the book showcases various uniqueness and successes of grant recipients from Think City, in its effort to restore and preserve the heritage in the state.

"The book displays over 200 projects by our 100 grant recipients within the George Town heritage zone.

"This is also a way to appreciate and celebrate the efforts and contributions by all grant recipients through the George Town Grant Programme (GTGP) to further rejuvenate the George Town World Heritage Site," he told a press conference on Tuesday.

Also present were Think City chairman Datuk Dr Anwar Fazal and MBPP mayor Datuk Maimunah Mohd Sharif.

Hamdan said a total of RM16.3 million was channelled through GTGL to all recipients and the grant went into renovating public spaces, capacity building, building conservation and intangible heritage.

He said that a large part of the fund was channelled to restoring architectural heritage, with a total of 87 buildings restored at the end of 2014.

He also pointed out that the projects created up to 600 new job opportunities.

"Our efforts were further strengthened with the establishment of the George Town Development and Conservation (GTCDC) through cooperation with the Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI) and Aga Khan Trust for Culture," he added.

He said those interested to buy the book may contact Think City directly as it will not be sold in the market.
