G25 is committed to pursue a just, democratic, peaceful, tolerant, harmonious, moderate and progressive multi-racial, multi cultural, multi religious Malaysia through Islamic principles of Wassatiyah (moderation) and Maqasid Syariah (well-being of the people) that affirms justice, compassion, mercy, equity.

Malaysia is to be led by rule of law, good governance, respect for human rights and upholding the institution of the country.

We aim to ensure, raise awareness, promote that Syariah laws and civil laws should work in harmony and that the Syariah laws are used within its legal jurisdiction and limits as provided for by the federal and state division of powers.

There should be rational dialogues to inform people on how Islam is used for public law and policy that effects the multi ethnic and multi religious Malaysia and within the confines of the Federal Constitution, the supreme law of the nation.

We work in a consultative committee of experts to advise the government and facilitate amendments to the state Syariah laws, to align to the Federal Constitution and the spirit of Rukun Negara.

It is imperative to achieve a politically stable, economically progressive Malaysia and to be able to enjoy the harmony, tolerance, understanding and cooperation in this multi diverse country.

G25's Noor Farida sues businessman for defamation

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin (pic), a member of the group of eminent Malays known as G25, is suing a businessman for defamation, allegedly for implying that she is treacherous and had insulted the religion of Islam.

Noor Farida, 69, said that Azmi Arshad on July 13 last year published a defamatory article on his Facebook account and the Portal Islam & Melayu website.

High Court Judge Yeoh Wee Siam advised the parties to go for mediation to resolve the matter.

Speaking to reporters here after the parties met the judge in chambers, Azmi's lawyer Azad Bashir said that the court has set May 13 for case management pending the plaintiff filing reply to their amended statement of defence.

"We filed and served the defence on April 19," added Azad.

In her suit, Noor Farida said the words implied that she had acted against the interest of the country and was not fit to be a Malaysian, adding that the allegations against her are wholly unjustified. She said her personal and business reputation had been gravely damaged and she had undergone considerable distress, hurt and embarrassment.

Noor Farida is seeking for general damages for libel, an apology and an injunction on Azmi from further publishing similar defamatory words against her.

In the amended statement of defence dated April 18, Azmi denied defaming her and contended that the facts were true and justified.

Azmi said the words in the article and the Facebook posting was a fair comment on a matter involving public interest.
