PETALING JAYA: Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin (pic), a member of the group of eminent Malays known as G25 says she is not aware she is being investigated under the Sedition Act.
Noor Farida, who has been heavily criticised after calling for a stop to khalwat (close proximity) raids on homes, said the police had not contacted her over the matter.
"I only learnt about it from an online news portal," she said.
Malacca police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye confirmed that they were investigating Farida based on police reports lodged against her.
He said they were investigating the allegation under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act.
Farida had reportedly called for a review of Islamic laws pertaining to khalwat enforcement in private homes.
"I want to lodge a police report too against all those who have taken my statement out of context," she said.
Chuah said the investigation is focussed on the G25 forum organised during the Universiti Malaya Alumni Association on Dec 5-6.
"Farida was just one of the speakers. We will be in contact with her soon to set an appropriate date for her statement to be recorded."
Chuah added that other speakers may also be called to give their statements, depending on the results of the police investigation into the forum.
