What we stand for

G25 is committed to pursue a just, democratic, peaceful, tolerant, harmonious, moderate and progressive multi-racial, multi cultural, multi religious Malaysia through Islamic principles of Wassatiyah (moderation) and Maqasid Syariah (well-being of the people) that affirms justice, compassion, mercy, equity.

Malaysia is to be led by rule of law, good governance, respect for human rights and upholding the institution of the country.

We aim to ensure, raise awareness, promote that Syariah laws and civil laws should work in harmony and that the Syariah laws are used within its legal jurisdiction and limits as provided for by the federal and state division of powers.

There should be rational dialogues to inform people on how Islam is used for public law and policy that effects the multi ethnic and multi religious Malaysia and within the confines of the Federal Constitution, the supreme law of the nation.

We work in a consultative committee of experts to advise the government and facilitate amendments to the state Syariah laws, to align to the Federal Constitution and the spirit of Rukun Negara.

It is imperative to achieve a politically stable, economically progressive Malaysia and to be able to enjoy the harmony, tolerance, understanding and cooperation in this multi diverse country.

Former High Court judge joins G25

PETALING JAYA: A former judge, former senior civil servants and educationists have joined the ranks of the group of eminent Malays, G25.

"The new group of 25 eminent Malays recruits, including former High Court judge Datuk Syed Ahmad Idid have now increased its number to 53 members," said G25 spokesman Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin.

Others who joined were former education director-general Tan Sri Dr Asiah Abu Samah, former Kuala Lumpur mayor and Public Services Department director-general Tan Sri Mazlan Ahmad and former Bank Negara governor's public affairs adviser Zailah Tun Ismail.

The group was also joined by former University Malaysia Sabah vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Kamarulzaman Ampon, former UiTM dean of medicine and UCSI vice-chancellor Prof Khalid Yusoff and IIUM associate professor Dr Normala Obid, Parent Action Group for Education (Page) chairman Azimah Rahim, Page honorary secretary Tunku Munawirah Putra, University Putra Malaysia Intercultural consultant Dr Asma Abdullah and Sekolah Sri Garden founder Ahmad Hassan.

G25, comprising mostly former top civil servants, ambassadors, academicians and civil rights activists, have called for rational dialogue on the position of Islam in Malaysia apart from expressing deep dismay over the continuing unresolved disputes on the position and application of Islamic laws in the country.
