Tunku Munawirah Putra

Honorary Secretary of the Parent Action Group for Education Malaysia or PAGE. She is very much influenced and inspired by her grandfather, Tunku Abdul Rahman’s thoughts on education. At every opportunity she gets, she would like to remind the Malaysian public and the authorities of her grandfather's aspiration on building a progressive, prosperous and peaceful nation.

An associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (ACMA) completed her professional qualification in London, England. She has worked in Bank Negara, Price Waterhouse Associates and Rashid Hussain Securities, subsequently obtaining a post-graduate Certificate in Financial Planning (CFP).

She opted to leave the corporate arena to raise her children and be involved in matters of education having held the positions of PTA Chairperson of SK Bukit Damansara and Vice-Chairperson of SMK Seri Hartamas.

At the height of the debate on the Teaching and Learning of Science and Mathematics in English in 2008, she, along with a team of like-minded parents, founded the Parent Action Group for Education Malaysia (PAGE), a national society, to defend and ultimately ensure that “pupils are to be educated in accordance with the wishes of their parents”, as stated in the Education Act 1996.

Academic qualifications – MBBS (India, 1976), MPH (Philippines, 1982) Retired as Director of Family Health Development, Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia in January 2007, after serving the government of Malaysia in the MOH for almost 30 years.

 

Dato Dr Narimah Awin received the accolade for honorary membership of the Malaysian Paediatric Association (MPA). In MPA’s 43 years history, only one person received the award prior, the first honour was bestowed upon Tun Dr Siti Hasmah in 1998.

Former diplomat, Melaka-born, educated at University of Malaya and The Fletcher School, Tufts University, USA, serving, inter alia, as Ambassador to Libya/Malta, France, and Permanent Representative to the UN, New York; Had served on UN Security Council during Malaysia’s membership of the UNSC in 1988-89 and again in 1999-2000, and presided over the UNSC for the months of July 1999 and August 2000 during Malaysia’s presidency of the Council; Chairman, UNGA Special Political Affairs and Decolonisation Committee (Fourth Committee); Member, UN Special Committee Investigating Israeli Practices Affecting Human Rights of Palestinian People and Other Arabs of Occupied Territories; and Member, U.N. Secretary-General’s Advisory Panel for Disarmament Matters. Upon mandatory retirement, Tan Sri was appointed as Ambassador with Special Functions for Non-Aligned (NAM) Affairs during Malaysia’s chairmanship on NAM; Executive Chairman, Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR); and Chairman, Malaysian National Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM). Tan Sri has also served as Adjunct Professor at UKM, IIUM and UUM and is a founding member of an international NGO, the Asia Pacific Leadership Network for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (APLN).
